Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that turns goodwill into meaningful action. By supporting Island Kids Cancer Association on this day, you directly strengthen local families, fund essential services, and help ensure that no child on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands faces cancer alone. Giving Tuesday allows the community to come together in solidarity, celebrating the spirit of giving while providing immediate support to children and families navigating one of life’s most difficult challenges.
Donating Blood
Donating blood is a powerful way to support children with cancer, many of whom rely on frequent transfusions during treatment. Chemotherapy and other lifesaving therapies can lower a child’s red blood cells, platelets, and immune cells, making transfusions essential for their strength, stability, and recovery. Every donation helps keep a child safe and well enough to continue treatment. A single act of giving blood can make a life-changing difference for a child fighting cancer.
BCause
Have you heard of BCause? They’re an Island-based grocery delivery service built on community and generosity. When you shop with BCause and select IKCA as your charity of choice, your everyday grocery order becomes meaningful support for families facing childhood cancer. A portion of every purchase goes directly to your chosen cause, making it effortless to give back while you stock up. By choosing IKCA, you help fund vital programs like mental-health support, financial aid, emergency travel, and family-connection services. You get fresh, high-quality produce and curated meat boxes delivered to your door and IKCA gets essential support. It’s a simple win-win: nourish your household while helping lighten the load for Island families navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis.
Become A Monthly Donor
Becoming a monthly donor to Island Kids Cancer Association is one of the most meaningful ways to make a lasting difference for children with cancer and their families across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Your ongoing support ensures that no child faces treatment alone—providing stable funding for emergency travel, mental-health services, family support programs, and vital moments of connection during an unimaginably difficult time. Monthly giving is powerful because it creates reliability: families can count on help the moment they need it, and IKCA can plan ahead to expand life-changing programs. With a small, steady contribution, you become part of the safety net that holds Island families up when their world is turned upside down.
Outway Socks
This Giving Tuesday, support 11-year-old Victoria resident and childhood cancer patient Eamonn Millar, who has teamed up with local brand Outway to create his second sock design in aid of IKCA. Following the success of his first “Dreams Gone Wild” socks, Eamonn’s new “Enchanted Deep” design spreads hope, strength, and joy to children facing cancer. All net proceeds go directly to IKCA, funding vital programs like financial assistance, practical support, and wellness services for Island families. By purchasing a pair at Outway, you wear a story of resilience and help ensure no child faces cancer alone.
Upside Cookies for a Cause
CHEK and Old Farm Market have teamed up to launch Upside Cookies for a Cause, a fundraising initiative supporting IKCA. The campaign was inspired by deli manager Brooke Neuffer, whose son battled Ewing sarcoma last year.
“Ryan was diagnosed in December and went through 14 rounds of chemotherapy before beating cancer in August. Now we’re just looking to give back to Island Kids Cancer Association.” – Brooke Neuffer
Shoppers can buy Upside Cookies for a Cause in-store, with proceeds benefiting IKCA’s programs. Cookies are sold in bags of 8 for $4.99 or 12 for $6.99 at all three Old Farm Market locations in Oak Bay, Courtenay, and Duncan.
Shares and Securities
Gifting publicly traded securities is one of the most strategic and tax-effective ways to support IKCA and create a lasting impact for children and families facing childhood cancer. By donating stocks, mutual funds, or bonds directly, you eliminate the capital gains tax you would owe if you sold the investments yourself, while still receiving a charitable tax receipt for their full market value – allowing you to give more at no additional cost. For example, donating $5,000 in appreciated shares avoids taxation on the gain and increases the value of your contribution to IKCA’s critical programs. CIBC helps facilitate the transfer and sale of donated securities, and donors can even establish named funds that provide ongoing support year after year. This simple, efficient approach ensures your generosity has maximum impact, strengthening essential services for Island families today and for generations to come.
With heartfelt thanks,
The IKCA Team
