49 Below Ice Cream create special flavour with IKCA
We’re excited to share a new partnership with 49 Below Ice Cream in support of children and families navigating childhood cancer across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
Launching February 15 in recognition of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, philanthropint is a special-edition ice cream flavour created to give back. For every pint sold, $2 will be donated directly to IKCA, helping us continue supporting the more than 230 families.
What makes this initiative especially meaningful is that IKCA families helped choose the flavour. Families were invited to vote on their favourite from three custom-designed options, with Fairy Berry Sherbet — a refreshing blend of strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry — selected as the winner. The flavour is also nut, gluten, and egg-free.
“Having families directly involved made this project especially meaningful,” says Dan Edler, owner of 49 Below. “It was a privilege to welcome families into our store to help create and sample the special-edition flavour. We’re honoured to support IKCA and the incredible families they serve.”
Community partnerships like this make a real difference. Families facing childhood cancer often travel for treatment, spend long days in hospital, and manage significant financial and emotional strain. Support from local businesses helps ensure we can continue providing financial assistance, mental health supports, food programs, and year-round community programming.
“We’re currently supporting more than 230 families,” says Jenna Remedios, IKCA’s Program and Partnerships Lead. “When local businesses step up, it not only helps fund our programs, it reminds families they are not alone.”
Fairy Berry Sherbet will be available at the 49 Below Ice Cream Oak Bay location from February 15 through the end of February (while supplies last). We hope you’ll stop by, enjoy a pint, and help us continue supporting Island families.
