Gratitude and Awareness: Reflections on IKCA’s Festival of Trees Debut

Date
December 10, 2024

This holiday season, Island Kids Cancer Association was honored to participate in the beloved Victoria Festival of Trees at The Bay Centre. This magical event brought our community together to spread holiday cheer and support BC Children’s Hospital—and we were thrilled to be a part of it!

Our tree was brought to life by the incredible creativity and dedication of IKCA’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Group, guided by IKCA staff member Tania. Together, they designed and decorated a tree that was as meaningful as it was beautiful. Each ornament featured heartfelt quotes from IKCA families about their journeys, while the wrapped gifts beneath the tree symbolized the many programs and support services that IKCA offers to families navigating childhood cancer.

This project was more than just a festive display—it was an opportunity to raise awareness about the childhood cancer journey and the vital work that IKCA does to support families every step of the way.

We are deeply grateful to the AYA Group and Tania for their creativity, hard work, and passion in bringing this vision to life. Their thoughtful approach truly captured the spirit of IKCA and the impact of our programs on the families we serve.

To everyone who visited the Festival of Trees, voted for our tree, or donated—we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your support not only brought joy to the holiday season but also helped shine a light on the importance of community in supporting children and families facing childhood cancer.

The Festival of Trees was a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season while raising awareness and funds for an important cause.
