Paddle for Health 2026 makes waves at Willows Beach

Date
September 12, 2026
Place
Willows Beach, Oak Bay

Paddlers of all ages from across Vancouver Island gathered for a sunny day out on the water during the 13th annual Paddle for Health fundraiser in support of Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA) on September 12, 2026. Dozens of kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards lined Willows Beach in Oak Bay as first-time paddlers, seasoned pros, and supporters joined in the event’s outdoor activities.

This year’s event was a chance to connect with the community, tell stories, and raise money to support families affected by childhood cancer. Participants and supporters — some celebrating their 10th year on the water with us — got to enjoy a scenic group paddle and activities on the beach, as well as a complimentary lunch from Kattia’s Kitchen and dessert from Maddie Lou’s Kitchen. Michelle Purvis told her journey at the event, sharing how she connected to IKCA in a heartfelt address to the gathered paddlers. Thank you to Michelle and to everyone who came out for the day — the community shows up for each other and your continued support makes an impact for local families facing childhood cancer.

When the community gets together, it makes waves. We are so grateful for those who made the day possible, including our inspiring volunteers, safety crews, community partners and sponsors, and supporters. Every year, we are reminded of what we can accomplish together.

If you were involved in this year’s event, we hope the day on the water inspired you and helped you feel connected to the community. We want to extend our continued thanks to our returning sponsors South Island SUP and Mer Tales Ocean Journeys, the dedicated Paddle for Health event team and volunteers, as well as founder Don Lowther, for his leadership and vision in making this event successful year after year.

Every dollar raised at this fundraiser goes towards programs that help Island families navigate a childhood cancer diagnosis. We look forward to welcoming you all back on the water next year!
