September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Date
September 9, 2025

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support families, and recognize the strength and resilience of children and youth navigating a cancer journey. We also honour the dedication and expertise of Canada’s pediatric oncology professionals and support staff, who care for children affected.

Each September, we shine a light on the realities of childhood cancer, celebrate the courage of children, youth, and families, and remember those we have lost.

The gold ribbon is the international symbol of childhood cancer, it represents the preciousness of children and the bravery they show every day.

Here on Vancouver Island, several landmarks will light up gold to show support:

  • Parliament Buildings, Victoria – September 5
  • The Bastion, Nanaimo – September 14–18
  • City Hall, Victoria – September 23

How you can help:

  • Wear gold – Show your support and spark conversations.
  • Spread awareness – Share posts and stories on social media.
  • Give – Donations fund programs and support services for local families.
  • Get involved – Volunteer or fundraise; every action matters.

Together, we can ensure children with cancer and their families receive the care, resources, and support they need.
