September Highlights
Pacific FC Outing at Royal Athletic
IKCA families had the opportunity to attend a special Pacific FC soccer game in September, held at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria. For this one-of-a-kind event, the team transformed the park into a full soccer field with stands, creating an energetic downtown atmosphere for the “Downtown Derby” against Vancouver FC.
It was a beautiful day to celebrate sport, community, and togetherness. Families enjoyed the festival-style experience, cheering on Pacific FC as they scored a thrilling goal in extra time to tie the game. Whether longtime supporters or first-time attendees, everyone soaked in the excitement and spirit of Island soccer in this memorable setting.
Parliament Building, Bastion and Victoria City Hall Light Up
September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support families, and recognize the strength and resilience of children and youth navigating a cancer journey.
Throughout the month, we shone a light on the realities of childhood cancer, celebrated the courage of children, youth, and families, and remembered those we lost.
On Vancouver Island, several landmarks lit up gold to show support:
- Parliament Buildings, Victoria
- The Bastion, Nanaimo
- City Hall, Victoria
Ways people supported included: wearing gold to spark conversations, spreading awareness on social media, donating to fund programs for local families, and getting involved through volunteering or fundraising.
Dad’s Fishing – Catch of the Day
IKCA Oncology Dads enjoyed a much-deserved day on the water, setting out from Port Renfrew for sunshine, plentiful catches, and time to relax and connect. As one dad joked, “It was a great event… and the kids are already complaining about having salmon for the third time this week.”
Thank you to Hookem’ Danno and West Coast Trail Express for supporting male caregivers and making this day so memorable.
